Broom travel unlocks during Johan’s Winds of Freedom quest in Kamo Village. Bring 1 Cloth and 2 Wood, return to Johan, then equip the broom you receive. The PC recording uses Y to summon it after equipping. Brooms have an altitude limit, so use the Wisdoms Peak portal for the grimoire tower rather than trying to fly above the ceiling.
PC starter-broom route from October 2026 sources. Equip and summon inputs are documented; vertical keys and controller mapping remain unverified.

Johan is part of the Kamo tutorial chain. Follow the active Journal objective with J if you have not yet reached his request. The documented quest has a material requirement; it does not require owning a grimoire first.
- Speak to Johan in Kamo Village and accept Winds of Freedom when the tutorial sends you to him.
- Gather 1 Cloth and 2 Wood. Keep them for the quest instead of selling them.
- Return to Johan and complete the delivery conversation. The documented rewards are 200 EXP, 25 Marks and the broom unlock.
- Find the received broom in your inventory, select it and click in the game view to equip it as shown in Shredsy’s guide. Close the menu and press Y; a mounted character is the visible success check.
Equip first, then summon with Y
The item selection and the flight input are different actions. Shredsy explains the equip sequence at 3:42–3:47 and then gives Y as the use key; the following frame shows the character on the broom. The Item Level beginner guide independently gives Y for broom flight.
If pressing Y does nothing, first check that Johan’s hand-in finished and that the broom is equipped. A broom sitting in the bag is not the same state as an equipped broom. The sources here do not identify a separate set of vertical-motion keys, so no Space/Ctrl mapping is assumed from another Clover game.
PC keys do not establish the console layout. The developer’s older basic control reference also does not give broom controller buttons.

Work with the altitude limit
A broom cannot climb indefinitely. The grimoire route uses the portal at the base of Wisdoms Peak to reach the tower; repeatedly trying to fly higher is not the intended access step. Follow the first-grimoire portal procedure.
The Broom Flying profession has separate altitude and speed perks. The community reference lists altitude increases at tiers II and V, speed increases at III and VI, and a rider-knockoff action using block at tier IV. Those are later profession perks, not extra abilities of every newly received broom.
This guide does not promise unlimited flight, a fixed top speed or fall-damage immunity. For longer repeated journeys, Brother Grimm’s Waypoint Repair unlocks another travel option.
Complete the three Broom Derby races
After learning the starter broom, Daeron the Daring’s Broom Derby asks for three races. Finish their displayed race objectives, then return to the quest giver for the overall reward. The listed reward is 250 EXP, 55 Marks and Tailwind, a 15% broom-speed trait.

| Race | Where the written quest reference sends you | Completion context |
|---|---|---|
| Broomshroom Zoom | Gargamel, Mushroom Village. | Also listed as its own repeatable quest for 75 EXP and 25 Marks. |
| Elden Derby | Tinycap, Elden Forest. | One of the three entries needed by Daeron’s overall Derby quest. |
| Kamo Broom Blitz | Boone near the Kamo blacksmith; race east or southeast of the blacksmith. | Completing this race alone does not finish the three-race Derby. |
Sources and version limits
Johan’s materials, rewards and Derby entries follow the original written broom reference. The PC equip/use sequence is visible in the supplied Shredsy recording. Item Level’s original beginner article supports Y and the height limit, but its level-10 magic threshold is not adopted as the release-era ceremony requirement.
